Cleaning takes off the growth and dirt. Sealing is what protects the surface and slows it coming back.
An unsealed surface drinks water in. It holds that moisture down in the pores and stays damp after the top looks dry — and that damp is exactly what the mould and algae feed on. Sealing fills the pores, so less water goes in and the surface dries out faster. The black takes longer to come back and doesn't get as bad when it does, and spills sit on top instead of soaking in, so you have a real chance at preventing severe stains.
It is not a magic coating that keeps the surface perfectly clean. It still needs washing — it just needs it less often, and it's easier to clean in the future.
I seal the same day I clean. It is an additional service that complements the cleaning.
Will cleaning damage my pavers?
Sound pavers handle it. What causes damage is bad technique — holding a jet in one place, or working over pavers that are already crumbling. If yours are past it, I'd rather tell you before I start.
What's the white powder on my bricks?
Efflorescence. It's salt migrating out of the paver and drying on the surface. It cleans off, but because the salt comes from inside the material it can reappear. It's a nuisance, not damage.
Should I seal after cleaning?
It's worth considering. Sealing fills the pores so the growth has less to hold on to — it slows the return and reduces how bad it gets. It goes on the same day as the clean, and it's quoted separately from it. Transparent penetrating sealer only, so nothing changes about how your pavers look.
Can you clean around the pool?
